Personal Prayer, Living with the God by John Trenchard

"If you're looking for new life and help in your approach to God, Personal Prayer is for you."

This is a "Story" book of prayer. It is through the stories and reflections of ordinary people that we share how they were brought to an awareness of God in their lives. This awareness of God's presence is at the centre of prayer. The events in their lives that lead them to prayer are everyday events. In Maria's story it was the birth of her first child, for Brian it was when his daughter said to him "you are a bully." All of the stories share people coming to God as they are and the impact that has had in their lives.

The book explores how to start praying, the problems in prayer and different ways of praying. It is a reflective book. In Kathleen's story she says "Prayer puts things into perspective. When you praise God you start to see things with his eyes: the situation may not change - but you see with a different view."

Personal Prayer is a carefully crafted book, thoughtfully put together. It is greatly enhanced by beautiful photographs, appropriate scriptural texts and examples of prayer from St Therese of Lisieux, Teidhard de Chardin and many more.

I would highly recommend this book. It allows you to dip in and out, it uplifts you and challenges you. It helps you to realise that God's Spirit is in every human being, leading us to know oneself and to realise that love has no limits. The book aids you in developing a relationship with God and shows how God is found in the nuts and bolts of life.
